On January 1st, 2025, a powerful anti-drug rally took place in Kira community and neighboring communities, aiming to raise awareness about the rising issue of drug abuse in the community. The event was mobilized by Mr. Ndume Green, the CEO of Capital TV, who expressed deep concern about the troubling trend of drug abuse among local youth.
Organized with the support of Capital TV Nigeria, Ogonitv WMF, and Capital Film and Creatives Village, the rally brought together youths, demonstrating the community’s collective determination to combat this destructive menace. The campaign started early, with participants gathering at 6 am to show their commitment to the cause.
In a statement, Ndume Green expressed his appreciation for the overwhelming turnout, saying, “I am deeply moved by the dedication shown by everyone who joined us this morning.”
Notably, Green further appreciated the efforts of Dr. Mpigi Gbenekanu Ledornu towards the success of the rally.
The sensitization effects of this rally are expected to be far-reaching. First, it will empower residents of Kira community with knowledge about the dangers of drug abuse, helping to break the stigma surrounding addiction and fostering a supportive environment for rehabilitation. The rally also aims to influence a shift in mindset, especially among young people, by highlighting the damaging consequences of substance misuse and promoting healthier lifestyle choices.
In addition, Ndume Green has taken the initiative to schedule a meeting with youths identified as involved in the drug trade. “My goal is to engage these individuals, understand their challenges, and provide them with alternative, sustainable livelihoods,” Green added.
