In a shocking revelation on Arise TV this morning, February 28, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagha, the senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of maligning her character after she rejected his alleged advances.

The senator did not mince words as she detailed her experiences, shedding light on what she described as a pattern of harassment and subsequent retaliation.

Recall that the Senate had referred Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to its Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary review following a dispute over seating arrangements in the chamber.

Akpoti-Uduagha claimed that Akpabio’s actions directly responded to her refusal to succumb to his advances. She alleged that the Senate President has since engaged in a campaign to tarnish her reputation, using his influence to undermine her political career and credibility.

Speaking to Arise TV, the Senator said: “I am speaking my truth and the senate president is allowed to counter that. It all started on the 8th of December, 2023, a day to his birthday. We were all in Akwa Ibom where he was having an event at the stadium. At first, we were in his house at Ikot Ekpene before moving to his house in Uyo.

“When we were there, he held my hand and said he wanted to show me his house while my husband was walking behind us. He got to this room and said ‘do you like my house?’ I said yes. He said ‘Good. Now that you are a senator, I am going to create time for us to come spend quality moments here, and you will enjoy it.’ I did not know what that meant.”

Sentor Akpoti-Uduagha further claimed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s refusal to approve her motion for the listing of an investigation of the ills of the corrupt parties at the Aje-Okuta steel company until the sixth asking was as a result of her further refusal to his advances.

The public and political commentators alike are eagerly awaiting responses from both Akpoti-Uduagha and Akpabio, as this controversy continues to develop. The outcome of this situation could have significant implications for the political careers of those involved and for the broader discourse on gender and power in Nigeria.
