Rivers State Governor Moves to Reconcile with State Assembly Following Supreme Court Verdict

Port Harcourt, Monday, March 10, 2025 – The Rivers State Government has taken a decisive step toward resolving the long-standing dispute between the executive and legislative arms of the state.

In an official communication from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Governor Siminalayi Fubara has invited the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and all members of the Assembly to a crucial meeting aimed at charting a path forward.

This development follows the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the matter, which has now provided legal clarity on the lingering dispute. In response, the governor has expressed his commitment to upholding the court’s decision and fostering a harmonious working relationship between the executive and legislative branches of government.

The meeting, scheduled for today at 10 AM at the Office of the Governor, Government House, Port Harcourt, will address key concerns, including:

  • The provision of a suitable venue for the Assembly’s sittings
  • The settlement of outstanding remuneration and allowances for the lawmakers  
  • The presentation of the state budget and other critical legislative matters
